FAM Athlete James Robinson Earns Illinois State Hall of Fame Recognition, Continuing a Legacy of Excellence

From record-setting performances in Rockford to NFL history and a professional football championship, James Robinson's journey is one of perseverance, achievement, and lasting impact.
Forever Athlete Management (FAM) proudly celebrates James Robinson on his selection to the 2026 Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding collegiate football career and contributions to the Redbirds program.
The honor adds another milestone to Robinson's remarkable journey, which includes breaking Illinois high school football records, becoming one of Illinois State's most accomplished running backs, making NFL history as an undrafted rookie, and helping lead the Louisville Kings to a United Football League (UFL) championship.
From Rockford to Record-Breaking Success
A native of Rockford, Illinois, Robinson began establishing his football legacy at Rockford Lutheran High School, where he emerged as one of the state's most prolific running backs.
By the conclusion of his high school career in 2015, Robinson had established Illinois High School Association records with 9,045 career rushing yards, 158 rushing touchdowns, and 948 total points.
His accomplishments helped lay the foundation for a successful collegiate career at Illinois State University.
Building a Legacy at Illinois State
From 2016 through 2019, Robinson became a cornerstone of the Illinois State Redbirds' offense, earning national recognition for his consistency, production, and physical running style.
He concluded his collegiate career ranked second in Illinois State history in several major categories:
4,444 career rushing yards
44 rushing touchdowns
5,218 all-purpose yards
46 total touchdowns
Robinson earned three consecutive First-Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selections and multiple All-America honors.
His senior season in 2019 was particularly memorable. He rushed for 1,899 yards and 18 touchdowns, earned consensus First-Team All-America recognition, and was named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.
During the 2019 FCS Playoffs, Robinson delivered a school-record 297 rushing yards against Southeast Missouri State, further solidifying his place in Redbirds history.
His selection to the 2026 Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame recognizes the lasting impact of those accomplishments.
Defying the Odds in the NFL
Despite his decorated collegiate career, Robinson was not selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.
He signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent and quickly demonstrated his ability to compete at the professional level.
In his rookie season, Robinson rushed for 1,070 yards and finished with 1,414 yards from scrimmage, establishing an NFL record for an undrafted rookie.
His performance made him one of the league's breakout players and demonstrated that determination and preparation could create opportunities beyond draft expectations.
Robinson's NFL journey later included time with the New York Jets and opportunities with several other organizations.
Perseverance Through Adversity
Robinson's professional career has also required resilience.
In December 2021, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon, presenting a significant challenge to his football career.
Rather than allowing the setback to define his future, Robinson continued pursuing opportunities to compete professionally.
His determination ultimately brought him to the United Football League, where he joined the Louisville Kings during the 2026 season.
After being briefly released early in the season, Robinson returned to the roster and helped spark a turnaround that culminated in a UFL championship.
During the championship game, Robinson rushed for 69 yards on 16 carries, including a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown that helped secure the title.
His performance demonstrated that his competitive drive and ability to contribute at a high level remained strong.
Recognized by the State of Illinois

Robinson's accomplishments have also earned recognition beyond the football field.
In July 2026, Illinois State Senators Steve Stadelman and Dave Syverson presented Robinson with a state resolution honoring his football achievements and his continued influence as a role model for young athletes.
The resolution, co-sponsored by Stadelman, Syverson, and former NFL linebacker and State Senator Napoleon Harris III, recognized Robinson's perseverance, accomplishments, and contributions to the state.
The recognition celebrated not only his athletic success but also the example his journey provides to young people pursuing their goals.
Together with his Illinois State Hall of Fame selection, the honor reflects the impact Robinson has made throughout his career.
A Legacy That Continues Beyond the Game
From his early days in Rockford to his record-setting collegiate career, historic NFL debut, and professional championship success, Robinson's journey reflects the perseverance required to succeed at every level.
His accomplishments serve as a reminder that an athlete's legacy is built not only through statistics and championships but also through the determination to overcome adversity and continue pursuing excellence.
At Forever Athlete Management, we are proud to support athletes whose journeys demonstrate resilience, character, and a commitment to continued growth.
As Robinson receives recognition among Illinois State's all-time greats, his story continues to inspire the next generation of athletes.
Congratulations, James Robinson, on your well-deserved Hall of Fame recognition. Your legacy continues. #FAMProud
